Design challenge for Notch artists
– Can you think inside the box?

This competition is for all Notch artists wanting to show off and improve their skills, earn the coveted title of Notchmeister, and even win some prizes!
There is one main rule this time: your entry must fit inside the default Notch Bounding Box area of 2×2 meters.

We’ve split the contest into two categories: video and interactive. Video entries can be as slow to render as you please; interactive entries must run at a reasonable, interactive frame rate on a high end PC.

The competition will run from March 25th to April 15th 2020. Entries will be judged in two rounds (public voting + jury), and to participate you must have an active Notch Builder license.

Prizes:

  • 4x 6 months Builder Pro licenses (one for each category and group winner)
  • The coveted and elusive golden Notch key chain to all top 5 entries!

Please read the rules carefully (the template file can be downloaded below) – and good luck!

Overview – what box?

A lot of effects in Notch depend on limited area of influence, or a bounding box that sets the boundaries for your effect. For real-time this is essential for making content and high end effects run effeciently and fast.

Effects such as Procedurals and Fields even depends on a virtual grid within a bounding box, and understanding how these grids and settings work is crucial to enable you to push the limits of your creativity within the realm of real-time graphics.
