MYLES SMITH AT THE BRIT AWARDS 2025

FRAY Studio combined subtly innovative lighting and textures to enhance Myles Smith’s stellar performance at the 2025 BRIT Awards.

For Myles Smith's 2025 BRIT Awards performance, which doubled as his first television performance since winning BBC Introducing’s Artist of the Year 2024, FRAY Studio created visuals to complement the artist’s effortless stage presence.

Working closely with Production Designers Cassius Creative, FRAY's director of 3D, Norvydas Genys, led the process, centring the team’s vision around complex lighting setups and clean, glassy textures that wove their way throughout The O2 stage’s reeded-glass risers. FRAY aimed to amplify the arena atmosphere without getting in the way of Smith’s natural stage presence or competing with other design elements like pyro.

Throughout production, the FRAY team encountered several technical challenges, the most significant being the gigantic canvas size and high resolution required for their concept maps. To realise their vision, FRAY used Notch, which proved crucial for working at such a massive scale. For Smith’s number-one hit, “Stargazing,” the creative team explored an “infinity room” concept, adding depth in the form of never-ending light reflections.

With Notch 1.0’s new NURA rendering system, they could quickly toggle through their rendering options before settling on the Standard Renderer. “Even at that resolution,” recalls Genys, “It took less than ten minutes to render the whole track. It was super fast.”

In addition to his three nominations, Smith received the BRIT Rising Star Award. Together, his sterling performance and FRAY’s striking visuals successfully cut through the noise surrounding the whole event to make what was easily one of the highlights of the night.

It was important to create something a bit more interesting than just a bunch of stars in the background. But as you can imagine, working with infinity at that resolution is a crazy task! Notch 1.0’s advanced rendering capabilities were an essential part of the process.
