ADOBE X CHASE CENTER: PRISMATIC CASCADE

Emmett Feldman combined photo, video, and real-time effects to create an abstract installation commemorating five years of San Francisco’s Chase Center.

In early 2025, Adobe commissioned Designer/Director Emmett Feldman to create a large-scale installation, Prismatic Cascade, inside San Francisco's Chase Center to celebrate the venue's fifth anniversary. Aiming to highlight Chase Center's place as a cultural prism that amplifies individual performances into collective experiences, Feldman chose to use a lush, hyperreal style underscoring the arena's community-first energy. The team designed the installation to feel alive—a mirror held up to the city's people, without whom the arena wouldn't exist.

With such a diverse culture and history of live events at the arena and in the Bay Area as a whole—spanning concerts, sports, comedy, arts, and family events—Feldman decided to take an atmospheric approach, abstracting photographs taken at the arena and constructing a kaleidoscope with them.

Feldman began using Adobe's new Firefly suite of generative video and other imagery to build a library of visuals, expanding the range of events at Chase Center. With Notch, he designed a series of real-time prismatic lenses, refracting the imagery into cascading sculptures of light and motion. The artist described the process as "weaving with beams of light—fluid, playful, and alive in real time."

The Adobe and Chase Center teams were thrilled, specifically hosting an artwork reveal day at the arena. Feldman adds, "The most exciting part for me is that the piece will be on display for a full year—seen by up to a million visitors across many backgrounds. The idea that such a wide and diverse audience will encounter it feels really powerful."

This piece's refractive design language was particularly suited to Notch’s real-time abilities. Notch allowed me to experiment freely with how light bent and fractured through my setup and to design in a way that felt immediate, intuitive, and alive.
