CHASE & STATUS’ ARENA TOUR 2025

FRAY Studio worked with Two & Eight to design an intense arena tour featuring practical effects and cinematic trappings for Chase & Status.

FRAY Studio worked alongside Vision Factory to design Chase & Status’ 2025 arena tour. Together with Two & Eight, the team planned and executed a whole film shoot to capture all content in camera without CG or animation. Will Kennard (Status) also provided guidance and visual direction throughout production, with his wife (and the group’s manager), Sophie, coordinating workshops between the teams.

Despite the nature of the project, the electronic duo didn’t want to bog down the production with a heavy-handed narrative. Instead, they prioritised world-building through a collage approach, depicting fragments of people, places, and patterns that repeated, each time reappearing slightly different from the last.

The creative team aimed to capture reality, leaning heavily on the visceral, the physical, the raw, the distorted. Knowing they couldn’t rely on stock footage for this show, FRAY and Two & Eight took ample time in pre-production to develop detailed storyboards and shot lists to carry them through multiple shoots involving classics of high-octane cinema: abandoned warehouses, exploding cars, and stunt dogs—all captured practically on ARRI 35 with anamorphic lenses and high-speed Ember cameras at 600 frames per second.

FRAY complemented the film with Notch 1.0, which they used to create camera effects consistent with the visual identity created through production and post-production. Specifically, they implemented VHS and mini-DV aesthetics to heighten their desired grit and realism, stacking innumerable variations with Notch’s Custom Shader Post Effect and Combiner nodes. Onsite, they pushed their final looks even further with Notch’s Virtual Background and Face Tracker features.

With Notch 1.0’s updated exposed parameter system, it was easier than ever to make real-time adjustments, like accounting for the ever-changing lighting conditions during the show.
