Project Description

Energy Air 2023

Timo Martens and team transformed Zürich’s Letzigrund Stadion into a perfect venue for a party of tens of thousands at Energy Air 2023.

Each year, Radio Energy Switzerland hosts the Energy Air live concert. Fifty thousand people attended this year’s four-and-a-half-hour sold-out show, which took place at Letzigrund Stadion Zürich on the 9th of September and featured twenty-two international acts, such as Anastacia, James Blunt, and Passenger, performing sixty-five songs throughout the afternoon and evening.

Radio Energy asked Creative Director and Notch Designer Timo Martens to program and rehearse all visuals in a couple of weeks, taking commercial breaks and warm-ups into account. The team wanted an over-the-top set of designs stressing the event’s size and scope.

Martens used Notch for live video effects implemented over a series of creative LED walls. The team used Notch’s Virtual Background and Background Removal features for optimum image control, often mirroring their content to fill out the entire stage.

REC.TEC AG, led by Michael Memmersheim, used Pixera media servers–two for controlling GUI and audio output and two client servers for video output, which covered about 850 square metres of LED wall. The final show was a hit, and SwissGlam described the event’s trajectory as going from an all-out party to feelgood singalong.

“It could’ve been a challenge to implement our live feed on the structured LED walls of the outdoor venue, but with Notch, we could be as flexible as necessary.”
